Mind vs Body Creating Disease

Posted March 21, 2007, by KG

Disease in my opinion is multifactorial.  Many causes combine to create disease.

Things like poor diet, lack of execise, lack of sleep, toxins in the environment, drinking too little water, lack of sunlight, etc., affect the body directly and contribute to the deterioration of health.

Attitude, emotional feelings and mental thoughts also can be another factor in the creation of disease.   These come from the mind and can also contribute to the deterioration of health.

Which is more prevalent or important?  Causes that come from the mind or from the body?

I believe that both are important, and this is very individual for each person. What is important for one person may be uniquely different for another.

Yet if I were to paint this picture with a broad stroke of my brush, I would say that people with wonderful, radiant attitudes about life tend to stay fairly healthy.  Even those people whose lifestyles would say otherwise.

And I have seen many people who eat organic this and that, exercise regularly, have an excellent water intake, ensure that they rest and sleep; and they are not very healthy because their attitude sucks.  Either they are excessively worried, or angry, or sad or fearful.

Now the very healthiest people I see have both cylinders firing.  They are gloriously happy with life AND they have a wonderful lifestyle.

It never ceases to amaze me when I see patients who have a diagnosis of cancer, and are still living when statistics have declared death long ago. I'm intrigued and curious, so I question and study these people.

And invariably it's always the same.  These people don't worry about their disease.  They have faith in life and continue living their lives with passion and joy.

Having said this, I don't discount diet, exercise, sleep, rest, detoxification programs or anything else that improves the body's health.  These are crucial to feeling well and living a healthy life.

However, the mind is the most powerful tool we have to create ourselves from the inside out.

How do you want to create yourself?
