Lemons and Lemonaide

Posted March 14, 2007, by LastDFer

You've heard the one about " If life throws you a bunch of lemons - this is your opportunity to make lemonaide".

Well I live in North Western British Columbia Canada, and this year we've received 50% more snow than the average winter. It must be part of Global Warming.

Winter came really early, and during the last weekend in October we received more than 4 feet of snow in less than 24 hrs. The snow just kept coming all winter long, fortunately not at the same rate, but a steady increase of the white stuff almost daily.

I'm 48 yrs of age and thought to myself, what am I going to do with all this precipitation that life is gifting me?

My answer was simple " Learn How To Snow Board".

And thats what I did. Man I should've done this earlier in life. It's a blast. The feeling of boarding down the hill in fresh powder is amazing, I'm totally present and feel a high that I haven't experienced since I was a kid.

Now my whole perspective of winter weather has changed. For the last 40 years whenever it forcasted snow I felt down as if summer would never appear. Now when it forcasts snow -YEEHAA!!!! its going to be another great day up on the mountain.

I still love summer, spring and fall but now I love winter too!

Now I've got to figure out what to do when life gifts me rain.

Does anyone have any suggestions, I'd sure love to hear them?

I've got another one. Snowboarding in April when it's drizzling down on the mountain. Very, very nice.

Walking in the rain is one of the great joys in life! The forest smells of earth and moss, the city is washed clean, and everything is renewed. One of the sweetest sounds of nature is the pitter patter of rain on the roof, forcasting renewed growth, and singing of flowers yet to bloom, gardens of bounty, and worms for the birds!

.... then there's always other fun things you can do in the rain like go skinny dipping or take up mud wrestling.

When life gifts you rain, try going in an outdoor hot tub with the rain dripping on your face. This is pretty refreshing and rejuvenating. Or try lying in a tent with the tent window unzipped so you can see the rain pouring down and making all of the surrounding plants a brilliant shiny green.
