Almost 1 in 10 Men Have HPV

Posted January 28, 2012, by jen157

The American Society of Clinical Oncology has released a study on HPV statistics stating that 1 in 10 men carry the cancer causing sexually transmitted disease compared to just 3.6 percent of women.

Researchers tested almost 6,000 men and women between the ages of 14 to 69. They tested for different types of HPV and asked questions about their drug and alcohol use, and sexual behaviors. They found, at no real suprise, that the more promiscuous people were the more likely they were to be carrying the virus.

HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that is the main cause of cervical cancer and has been shown to be the cause of other cancers as well and is also the cause of genital warts.

There is no cure for HPV but there is a vaccine for both men and women and parents are urged to have their children vaccinated befor they are sexually active.

Yeesh. Thanks for the post. Sobering statistics. The pre-puberty vaccination sounds like a good idea.
