@ScentedRN -- I'm looking forward to hearing about the results of your experiment. Congrats on the 70 pound loss. BTW -- LEF has two versions of the ogbono (Irvingia) supplement. One with straight ogbono; the other with ogbono plus a bunch of other stuff. They say that only half of their members respond well to the former. I guess I'm one of those.
I'm preparing for my own experiment. One difference, I plan to add is a 500mg. Cissus Quadrangularis capsules to a 2x/day dose of 1 teaspoon ground ogbono seeds because the two were combined in the Cameroon study: http://www.lipidworld.com/content/7/1/12. The Cissus is inexpensive compared to Irvingia capsules. Let me know if anyone has tried the combo. There are also studies using Cissus alone. But according to the hours of research I've done it looks like these 2 foods work synergistically together & ALL of the Irvingia (except orig. Integra-Lean)supplements have have others ingredients to ramp them up. I'm looking forward to tasting the ogbono. I am trying to maintain a 70# wt loss accomplished nearly 4 yrs. ago using prescription diet pills & AM quite certain I am leptin resistant as well as hypothyroid which is a HUGE double-whammy. Thanks for the interesting site.
I love that place. When I asked for ogbono they thought I was doing a pick-up for you! They were out of stock but took my info and Lynne picked it up for us yesterday. After your descriptions of its smell and taste it took me until today to taste it and... it isn't bad at all. Anyway, just starting to add it to my diet today and will share my findings in a few weeks. Thanks again for all the info on this wonderful nut.
Anne -- I chuckle at the thought of you and your sister visiting the African Market to buy your ogbono. Two fair white women going in to buy this exotic nut. I've been in the store maybe 10 times. Haven't seen a white person yet. Only non-black person I've seen is an Indian guy that comes in to sell stuff. I love going in there. The proprietor -- a Fijian -- is a nice guy, and I feel like I'm visiting a foreign country. Let us know your experiences.
Sorry for the delay in response lynne. I've working on revamping site the past week. IMHO, it doesn't make any difference whether we use the supplement or the nut. The supplement has very small quantities of the nut, but it still worked for me. When I take the nut, in ground up form, I just sprinkle it on oatmeal, fruit yogurts, and smoothies. Probably about a tablespoon worth. Keep in mind that Africans use it as a soup thickener. Probably in the ballpark of a tablespoon at a time. I've been taking a table spoon for the past 9 months. Haven't noticed any negative effects on myself -- only positive ones. Dunno wha it will do for anyone else though.
For someone just starting on Ogbono, is it okay to go with the nut or would you recommend the supplement. Also, for the nut, can you provide a recommendation on quantity/day? Thanks
I have to report the incredible results I've been having with ogbono (and I've got to get down to that African market to buy the nut in the hopes that it works for me at a much more economic rate!). Anyway, I've been scared to step on the scale since Thanksgiving. These days I have to be so careful with my diet and I also have to exercise a lot to maintain a good weight. Anyway, let's just say that since Thanksgiving I've adopted an "anything goes" policy toward food. I've been baking, snacking, just everything! Finally this morning I prepared myself for the worst, stepped on the scale, and there was NO CHANGE. I still can't believe it. I haven't been running because of an ankle injury so exercise is not what has saved me. It's got to be the nut. It's unbelievable. I'm not good with taking all the measurements as Peter is, but I can attest to the fact that this nut works wonders. If I'd eaten like this in the past couple years, even with the running, I would have no doubt gained at least 5 lbs (we won't even think about what it would look like without running!). My sister and I are going to try out the nut from the market this week.
@anne: Interesting -- effects in weeks 8-9. I have another friend who just started on Ogbono. I'm looking forward to seeing his data in a couple months. Now, on to your question about me going off Ogbono. Turns out, I didn't do it. I mean, here I stand at the nexus of scientific interest, and desire to be healthy. Seems that, in me, the latter is stronger than the former. To me, Ogbono is Medusa's freaking boiling cauldron, transforming my otherwise old and decrepit body into that of a young lamb. I am sipping from the Fountain of Youth and I'm not about to stop. Science be damned! Glad that people like you are trying it out so we can keep getting good data, rather than merely my own potentially placebo-polluted numbers. :)

@anne: I'm on the grounded up nut. Sprinkle some on my breakfasts.
Thanks for your thoughts Peter. Are you on the nut or the supplement?
