How-to: Jigglin' and Shakin'

Posted May 7, 2007, by peter

John Gray says this practice "gets stuff moving" inside our bodies to aid in elimintation. I do it every morning before breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • 5-10 minutes
  • comfortable clothing
  • the ability to stand, bend at the knees, and raise arms overhead

Steps:

Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, and breath deeply through your nose (or at least on the in-breaths). Focus on your belly expanding during your in-breaths. For each position in the sequence, I take 5 such breaths. While bouncing lightly at your kness, go through the following sequence:
  1.  With arms dangling straight down at your sides, palms facing in, jiggle your arms
  2. Bend at the elbows 90 degrees, move elbows back so that hands are just ahead of hips, and make downward "chopping' motions with your hands
  3. Move your hands close together in front of you, and stick your butt out behind you (i.e. you are riding a jiggly horse)
  4. Go back to standing straight up, and with your upper arms hanging straight down, bend at the elbow 90 degrees, with your hands out to either side of you (i.e. the Snoopy dance) (pictured in the photo)
  5. Straighten out your arms, and raise your arms to shoulder height, wih hands heading straight out to either side of you (i.e. you are now an airplane going through turbulence)
  6. With your arms still straight from your shoulders, bend 90 degrees at the elbow so that your hands are now pointing straight upwards (i.e. the cops have told you to "stick 'em up" and you have to take a pee)
  7. Raise both arms straight upwards (i.e. you are at rock concert)
After you have proceeded through positions 1, 2, ... 7, go backwards through the sequence (i.e."coming down") 7, 6, ... 1 until you're back with arms dangling straight down by your sides. When finished, keep breathling deeply and notice any sensations flowing around your body.

I only lasted 3 days. Now I know what people with ADD feel like. For people who are a bit high strung (like myself), this recipe revs up the nervous system. It wasn't my cup of tea. I prefer slow flowing movements.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to try this recipe out and do it daily for 2 weeks. I'm going to listen to music while I'm doing it because music for me heightens almost every experience. The reason I'm going to try it out is not because I want to detoxify or eliminate better, it's because I'm going to check out what it does for me energetically in terms of mental and emotional well-being directly.

The description was really good, however on Step 2 it was ambiguous for me. When I read it, I thought you were describing the photo in the recipe until I read Step 4. It might also be helpful to say for Step 2: "(i.e. you're Billy the Kid getting ready to take both guns out of their holsters)".
